Eco-Tech Alternators generate electrical power by using less engine horsepower per watt produced. Eco-Tech Alternators are more efficient than commonly used competitive units, 80% efficient versus 45 to 55% efficient. Additionally, in many applications the need to use high idle engine operation in order to overcome standard alternators' inability to produce enough electrical power is eliminated. Testing at Ecoair verified a 51 to 52% fuel use penalty due to the use of high idle in a 7.3 liter Ford engine. The increased fuel consumed by larger engines at high idle would be even higher than that demonstrated in the Fuel Savings Calculator.
